We are creators and designers. We love helping people bring their vision to life, whether that’s a theater director staging a large cast production or simply someone who wants to stand out at a costume party. Our costume inventory of thousands of pieces covers eras from Ancient Civilization to the 1980’s and 90’s. We stock costume uniforms for various professions such as Law Enforcement, Medical, Tradesman, and more. Whether you need a Cowboy or a Winged Fairy, a Renaissance Lord or an Elizabethan Lady, a Newsie or Chicago Gangster, we have what you need. We’ve been supporting theater costume needs for over 20 years so we understand that staying on budget and meeting deadlines are critical to the success of your show. We use our unique sustainable approach to find and modify pieces to create your vision while keeping costs manageable. Melodee Wolcott Allen began costuming church and elementary school productions in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area in the 1990’s and quickly fell in love with it. In a few short years she was the official costume director for the high school theater productions at the school where she worked as a teacher. She blew the dust off her old sewing machine and she made connections with some established costume renter/retail companies in the area and continue to pursue her costuming passion whenever the opportunity presented.
Life circumstances brought Melodee to Decatur, Alabama in January 2021 and she immediately sought to get involved with community and student theater to continue following her costuming passion. To her surprise she found that there was nowhere in N Alabama to rent theatrical costumes! So Melodee decided to open the business that she wanted to see and provide a reliable and creative resource for the theatrical companies of the area. Melodee Designs was born.
Melodee unofficially began operating in 2024 for only select productions locally in Decatur. In July 2026 Melodee Designs opened to the public at our office and warehouse space in Downtown Decatur.
